The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb continues to grow in stature, having received its second consecutive nomination for the prized Discovery Sport Industry Awards, and being included in two categories for the first time.The Official Shortlist for the 2017 awards covers 17 categories that recognise the very best in the business of sport, comprising everything from events to activations, sponsorships and communications. It truly represents the epitome of excellence for the industry.
For the second year running, the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb is nominated in the ‘Best Live Experience’ category, along with other prestigious, high-profile events such as the Nedbank Golf Challenge, FNB Wines2Whales mountain bike race and SA Rugby for the HSBC Cape Town Sevens.
This year, it has also been nominated for the ‘Cutting Edge Sport Award’, sharing the limelight with the likes of the ABSA Cape Epic, the Nedbank Cup and SuperSport.
“The quality and variety of this year’s entries was astounding,” commented Sgwili Gumede, chairman of Sport Industry Group. “We will have to wait until 18th May 2017 to discover who has produced the best success stories and who has set new standards of best practice in one of the fastest moving business sector in the world.”
The Official Shortlist was selected through an extensive steering process involving 50 key industry figures across a week of intensive judging, and will now go forward for consideration by the main Judging Panel, who will decide the winners in each category.

Now heading into its eighth edition, from 4 to 7 May 2017, the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb has grown dramatically over the years to become one of South Africa’s premier motorsport and lifestyle events.
It has developed to the point that it transcends motorsport, and become a ‘must-do’ lifestyle event attracting not only motorsport aficionados, but also some of the who’s who of the country that don’t want to miss the excitement that surrounds the Hillclimb.
The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb has already received several accolades. It achieved a nomination in the Motorsport event of the Year category of the British based 2016 International Historic Motoring Awards (IHMA) competition, won the ‘Best Tourism Activity’ title and was a finalist in the ‘Proudly Knysna’ category in the 2015 Sanlam Knysna Awards
